THE PORTRAIT REVISITED with Andrea Modica

This one-day workshop with artist Andrea Modica will examine the formal, conceptual, and even equipment choices photographers can use to create meaning in the photographic portrait. Andrea will share her own work and present photographs by practitioners throughout the history of photography, to frame an exploration of fact and fiction in the photographic portrait, and all that lies between. Please note that the definition of portrait is quite open for interpretation!

Students should plan bring three (3) physical portrait-based 8 ½ x 11” work prints from their portfolios, as well as two (2) books of work by portrait photographers they admire. Students will also be sent a reading to complete in advance, which will undoubtedly inspire and inform a lively group discussion.

This workshop is limited to 12 participants.
